A joint operation was conducted under the leadership of the army in various slums and residential hotels in Tongi area of Gazipur. A large amount of drugs, cash, gold ornaments, stolen mobile phones and foreign currency were seized. 53 men and 21 women were arrested in the raid.
This information was given in a press release sent by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday (November 4) night.
According to ISPR, in the current situation of the country, the Bangladesh Army is working with neutrality and professionalism across the country to prevent extrajudicial activities and maintain the rule of law, as well as to control the overall security and law and order situation of public property and important government installations.
In continuation of this, from midnight on November 3 to 9 am on November 4, a mixed team of 9 infantry divisions of the army and 6 separate ADA brigades, including BGB, RAB and police, conducted a joint operation at Tongi railway station and the adjacent Tongi Keranirtek slum and residential hotel.
A large amount of domestic and foreign liquor, beer, ganja, phensidyl, yaba, cash worth Tk 22 lakh 81 thousand 300, gold ornaments, stolen mobiles, small amount of foreign currency were seized in the operation.
A total of 74 people, including 53 men and 21 women, were arrested in this operation for various anti-social activities including drug storage and sale.
ISPR also said that most of the arrested were intoxicated during the operation. There are drug and robbery cases against them in the police station. They have been handed over to Tongi Police Station for necessary interrogation and legal proceedings.
The local people expressed relief in this operation of the army. As a result, the law and order situation in the area is expected to improve overall.
The ISPR has also said that such a strict stance of the army will continue in order to uphold the rule of law along with maintaining law and order in the current situation of the country, including suppressing all kinds of illegal activities.
