Confiscated Indian sugar
Joint forces seized 274 sacks of Indian sugar after raiding a warehouse in Kalmakanda, Netrakona. They raided the Orphanage Road of Upazila Sadar in the early hours of Monday night and seized sugar. However, they could not arrest the smugglers.
Captain Asif Pramanik Nuhash, commander of Kalmakandar camp of the army, gave this information on Tuesday (September 10) morning.
Locals said that the smugglers have been bringing drugs, spices, sugar and various types of cosmetics through the Indian border areas of Garo Hills of the upazila for a long time. Sometimes the BGB and the police conduct raids and seize smuggled goods, but the illegal arrival of goods through the border does not stop. Similar products are entering the country in Durgapur upazila of the district as well as through the Indian border. Army patrol team and Thana police seized Indian sugar yesterday night.
Kalmakanda army camp commander Captain Asif Pramanik Nuhash said that 274 sacks of Indian sugar in the warehouse of a person named Rafiq have been seized. The smugglers fled after realizing the operation. The estimated value of seized Indian sugar is Tk 16 lakh. After the investigation, a case will be filed in Kalmakanda police station mentioning the name of the smuggler.
