16 spillway gates of Karnaphuli hydroelectric plant will be opened at 10 pm today (August 24) due to rising water in Kaptai lake. For this, an urgent warning has been given to Bhati region. This information was given in an urgent message signed by ATM Abduzzah, manager of Karnaphuli hydropower plant.
The heavy rains of the last few days and the hill slopes from the upstream have started to increase the water in the Kaptai lake in Rangamati. At present the water in the lake is close to the danger mark.

According to the message, the water level of Kaptai Lake is 107.66 feet MSL (Mean Sea Level) at 3 pm on Saturday. As it is close to the danger zone, the 16 gates of the spillway will be lifted six inches to control the flood in the upstream and downstream areas. 9 thousand cfs of water will be extracted in it.
It was also informed that the inflow and rainfall of the lake are being closely monitored. If the inflow is high, i.e. the water level rises abnormally, the gate opening of the spillway will be gradually increased. At present power is being generated through five units. As a result, 32 thousand cfs of water is being extracted.
