Patna. You must have seen the speed of fast bowlers and brilliant strokes of batsmen playing on the cricket field, but these days a new game is going on in Moinul Haq Stadium of Patna. “How to dry the pitch?” The Ranji Trophy match between Bihar and Karnataka has now become a topic of discussion because of the 'indigenous technology' of drying the pitch.
This time, to keep the pitch dry in the stadium, instead of using modern technology, our own desi Goitha (dough) was resorted to. As a result, a sight was seen on the cricket field which had rarely been seen before.
‘Attempt to dry the pitch with the heat of 'Goitha'
Light rain on Saturday night made the entire field wet, making it difficult to start the game on Sunday. But Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) did not give up and adopted a unique indigenous method to dry the ground. An attempt was made to dry the pitch by burning cow dung in the tray.
Bihar's special Litti Chokha is cooked on this Goitha, but this time the moisture in the fire ground of Goitha was not removed. As a result, not a single ball was bowled. Players should also keep enjoying the nice weather.
From helicopter to goithe: the story of creativity of Bihar
This is not the first time that a unique experiment of drying the pitch has been done in this stadium. People remember the 1996 World Cup, when there was heavy rain before the match between Zimbabwe and Kenya. Then the then Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav did something which perhaps even today people remember with laughter and pride.
To dry the field, he had a helicopter fly over the stadium. Now this time in the same stadium, a new scene of burning cow dung cakes to dry the pitch was seen, which became a unique record in itself.
'Jugaad technology flourishes in Bihar'
Cricket experts say that in rain-affected stadiums, super soaker rollers, sub-air drainage systems, and fire steam heaters are usually used so that the field can be dried quickly. But Moin Ul Haq Stadium of Patna has set a new standard. 'Jugaad technique' is being adopted seriously here. First the helicopter and now Goitha.
BCA media manager Santosh Jha said that Moinul Haq has to be revived. Equipment is also being purchased. At present we used super sucker machine, fire plate and boiler. Despite this, a part of the field remained wet. Due to this, it was decided not to play the second day.
This incident has made one thing clear that there is no dearth of passion and creativity in Bihar cricket. If the state-of-the-art drainage system does not work, then Bihar definitely finds some solution on the field with the help of its 'Jugaad'. From helicopter to Goitha, this story tells that every match in Bihar cricket is not just a game, but an experience.
