BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the government not to take any rash decision on the issue of removal of the President.
He made this comment after paying respects at the grave of BNP founder, late President Ziaur Rahman at Shere-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Sunday (October 27) on the occasion of Jubo Dal's 46th founding anniversary.
Mirza Fakhrul said, 'I have taken an oath here today, that we will protect our freedom at any cost. After a long struggle against the fascist Awami League, the country became independent for the second time on August 5. The role of the youth party in this struggle is undoubtedly significant.
Mirza Fakhrul said, 'BNP chairperson is ill, despite this the youth party under the leadership of our leader Tariq Rahman has become much stronger than before. Their role will remain intact in the successful outcome of the student uprising to protect the sovereignty of this country. Jubo Dal will play a leading role in resisting those who do not want the good of Bangladesh.
Mirza Fakhrul, when asked about BNP's position on the anti-discrimination student movement meeting with you on the removal of the president, said, 'The discussion will be held at the highest forum of BNP. I will clarify our position at the end of the discussion.'
He said, 'We have said before that, in order to bring home the fruits of the mass uprising, to coordinate the revolution of Bangladesh, no stubborn decision can be taken. Should be in constitutional process. It is more necessary for him to hold elections after electoral reforms very quickly.'
Asked if he is afraid of any conspiracy if the election is delayed, he said, 'We have been saying again and again that the election should be held as soon as possible. Power must be transferred to a constitutional political force.'
Youth Dal president Monayem Munnar presided over and General Secretary Nurul Islam Nayan conducted more tributes at Ziaur Rahman's grave – BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, party Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, Chairperson Adviser Moazzem Hossain Alal and other central city leaders of Jubo Dal paid their respects.
