Israeli attack on sleeping journalists in Lebanon, 3 dead


At least three journalists were killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon. Besides, several people were injured. They were reportedly attacked on Friday (October 25) while they were sleeping in a guesthouse in the Hasbaiya area. Qatar-based media Al Jazeera reported this.

Photos and videos of the scene were circulated by the local media. The footage shows that the building was reduced to rubble in the attack. And a wrecked car marked 'Press'.

Al Jazeera reported that Al Mayadeen's cameraman Ghassan Najjar and engineer Mohammad Reda were killed in the attack. Almanar TV identified the third person as camera operator Wissam Qasim.

Journalists working in Gaza and Lebanon have often been the target of attacks. They are facing dire risks while spreading news from these places.

In November last year, two journalists of Al Mayadin TV lost their lives in a drone attack. The company has been complaining that the attack was deliberate.

A month earlier, Israeli shelling in southern Lebanon killed Reuters videographer Issam Abdullah and wounded several journalists from AFP and Al Jazeera.

The killing of journalists has caused international concern. Various international organizations of media workers and the United Nations have strongly criticized Israel in these incidents. However, Tel Aviv denied the allegations of killing journalists knowingly.

The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists, a media watchdog, said Thursday that it had initially killed 128 journalists in Gaza since the war began last October.
