Patrolling was being stopped – S Jaishankar

Dr S Jaishankar said, “A big issue is how you manage the border and how to negotiate the border agreement. What is happening now is the first part, which is the disengagement. India and China After 2020, there was agreement on how the soldiers would return to their bases but an important part was related to patrolling and we were trying to discuss this for the last two years. “What happened on October 21 was that in those particular areas, Depsang and Demchok, we agreed that patrolling would resume as before.”

On October 21, 2024, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had announced that after ongoing discussions over the past several weeks, the two countries have reached an agreement regarding patrolling arrangements on the LAC, following which the withdrawal of troops took place and ultimately the Galwan Valley in June 2020. The issues that arose in the area after violent clashes are being resolved. In 'NDTV's World Summit, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar had said that this agreement creates the basis of peace and harmony, which should be in the border areas and which was also present before 2020.
