The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued an advisory on Saturday (26 October 2024) regarding rumors that airlines companies are receiving daily bomb threats. The central government has sought help in this regard from social media platforms X, Meta and other social media platforms.
The IT Ministry said in strong words, “Social media platforms will have to immediately take necessary action under the IT Rules, 2021, so that no user is allowed to host, upload, disseminate etc. any illegal or incorrect information.” Go.”
'Necessary action will have to be taken immediately'
The ministry said, “In this regard, it should be noted that intermediaries including social media intermediaries are governed by the Information Technology Act, 2000 (IT Act) and the Information Technology (Intermediaries Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 (IT Rules, 2021 ) Under this, it is the responsibility of all platforms to immediately remove such misinformation which affects the public order and security of the state.”
The IT Ministry said, “Understanding their responsibilities, it is the responsibility of the concerned intermediaries including social media intermediaries to prevent any user from hosting, displaying, uploading, modifying, publishing any unlawful or inaccurate information.” “Take immediate necessary action under the IT Rules, 2021 by not allowing, transmitting, storing, updating or sharing.”
Section 79 of the IT Act was mentioned
The ministry said, “Further, the exemption from liability under Section 79 of the IT Act will not apply to any third party information, data or communication links provided or hosted by social media intermediaries. IT Rules, In case of failure of the arbitrators to comply with the obligations provided for in 2021, the provision of section 79 of the IT Act shall not apply to such arbitrator and they shall not be liable to any penalty as provided under any law including the IT Act and the Indian Judicial Code 2023 (BNS Will be responsible for the resulting action.
