1 killed in Russian drone attack on high-rise building in Kiev

A Russian drone attacked a high-rise residential building in Ukraine. The attack, which took place on Friday (October 25) evening in the country's capital, Kiev, started a fire on the upper floors of the building. At least one person was killed and five others were injured, officials said. British news agency Reuters reported this.

The head of Kiev's military administration, Sergei Popko, said the attack took place in a high-rise building in the Solomyansky district, just west of the capital's center. Authorities evacuated hundreds of residents to safe places after the attack.

The air raid warning was on for about an hour. The air defense unit of the country was active at that time. Two hours later, the authorities again issued an alert in the city for drone attacks.

Popko wrote on social media Telegram that the 17th to 21st floors of the building were damaged in the attack. And the fire spread to the 20th floor.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a teenage girl died in the attack. One of the injured has been taken to hospital for treatment. Besides, the authorities have set up a first aid center at the spot.

Emergency services said the fire was under control.

Popko also said that some of the broken pieces of the crashed drone fell in an open space in the Shevchenkivskyi area. However, no casualty was reported.
