UP Bypolls 2024: By-elections are to be held on 9 assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh on 13 November 2024. Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav announced on Wednesday (23 October 2024) that the alliance candidates will contest elections on all the seats on the symbol of Samajwadi Party. Now BJP has taken a dig at Congress regarding this. BJP leader Shehzad Poonawala said that in Uttar Pradesh, SP has performed the last rites of Congress. He said, “Congress has accepted one thing that they will not be able to do it and that is why they will surrender.”
'Congress has become the 12th main'
BJP leader Shehzad Poonawala said, “Congress has become the 12th Main, who has no authority. From Jammu and Kashmir to Kerala, Congress has become the 12th Main, who has no authority. Congress has lost its confidence. There is nothing left, Omar Abdullah says that if you want to take only one post, then the condition of Congress in Maharashtra is bad. It is big… there they sidelined Congress.”
'People are searching for Congress through binoculars'
BJP leader Shehzad Poonawala said, “Akhilesh Yadav has told him that Congress rides on Vikram's shoulders like a parasite, so he cannot do this now… Sadly, Congress is nowhere today. No, people are trying to find it through binoculars, but it cannot happen. Congress workers in Uttar Pradesh will be very disappointed.”
The leadership of Uttar Pradesh Congress had already indicated that if it did not get Meerapur and Phulpur seats then it would not contest the elections. The opposition has a good hold on both these seats, that is why Akhilesh Yadav refused to give these seats.

However, SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav has tried to show that the India alliance is together in the UP by-elections by writing a long post on X. He said, “It is not a matter of seat, but of victory. Under this strategy, the joint candidates of India Alliance will contest elections on all the 9 seats on SP's election symbol cycle. This harmony-filled unity and solidarity of India Alliance is in the interest of the country today. Will write a new history tomorrow too.”
