A. League called the Home Ministry's directive 'impunity'

The Awami League has claimed the directive given by the Ministry of Home Affairs not to sue, arrest and harass those related to the July uprising as 'impunity'. The party says that the people will re-establish democracy in this country and cancel the indemnity and judge all the killers, looters, arsonists and those who destroy the country's wealth on the soil of Bangladesh.

These things were said in a post given on the verified page of Awami League on Facebook on Tuesday (October 15) afternoon. In a statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday (October 14), it is said that no one will be harassed for the events related to the July uprising organized from July 15 to August 8.

Awami League's Facebook post said, 'Khandkar Mushtaq could not save the murderers of August 15 even with indemnity. The people established democracy in the country and tried the killers of Bangabandhu by canceling the indemnity in the great national parliament. InshaAllah, we will not have to wait much longer, once again the freedom-seeking people of Bangladesh will re-establish democracy in this country and cancel the indemnity of Yunus and judge all the killers, looters, arsonists and destroyers of the country's wealth on the soil of Bangladesh.

Criticizing the government's decision, the post said, 'This means that those who have killed thousands of policemen, killed thousands of Awami League leaders and activists, beaten thousands of people with sharp weapons and injured them with bloody wounds, crippled many for life, millions of rupees. They have been given impunity and indemnity for all their misdeeds that have damaged public property!'

The ousted Awami League compared such a decision of the government with the indemnity given by Khandaker Moshtaq to stop the trial of killing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in his family after 15 August 1975. Although the party was in power, Ziaur Rahman, the founder of BNP, was responsible for that indemnity.

Sheikh Hasina was addressed as the party president in Awami League's Facebook post on October 3 of this month. But in the statement given last Monday and Tuesday, Sheikh Hasina was called the party president as well as the prime minister.

It is said in Tuesday's Facebook post, 'Dr. seized power unconstitutionally after killing thousands of people by forcing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasin to leave the country through murder, murder and arson in 2024. Yunus and his council want to save the murderers and the destroyers of the country's wealth, the conspirators from facing justice with impunity. However, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina constituted a three-member Judicial Inquiry Committee for a thorough investigation of all the killings, arson and looting that took place since July 15 and called upon the United Nations for full cooperation in the investigation with advanced technology.

Part of the July coup plan – Chief Advisor Dr. Awami League's statement citing Muhammad Yunus's statement said, 'This means that all the killings during the movement were done through pre-planning. Yunus does not want those who took part in this killing mission and who have killed thousands of people since August 5 to be identified and brought to justice. By giving indemnity to the killers, he pardoned them without investigation and without trial, at the same time he and his accomplices are also involved in the planning of these murders – so it is proved.
