Dr. Yunus's team selection is not right: Major Hafeez

BNP Standing Committee Member Major (retd) M Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said, this government was formed by public opinion, by the will of the people. But as time goes by we are slowly getting frustrated. He said, “Professor Yunus is the country's meritorious son, he is known worldwide. He doesn't even want to be in power, he was offered it before, didn't stay. Still doesn't seem like he's enjoying it much. But I have to say one thing – his team selection is not right. Many of those he took with him wanted to stay in power for life. You may not be able to express it, but it seems so in the attitude.'

He said these things at a discussion meeting titled 'People's desire in mass coup: proposals for state repair' organized by Bangladesh Labor Party at Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of National Press Club on Tuesday (October 15).

M. Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, asking how much time it would take for the reforms, said that it took more than 6 days to notify the six commissions, which should not take more than two days. Slowly common people are getting frustrated. Fallen energy wants to come back. Even the Ansar forces want to queue, such a weak government.'

Criticizing the government, Hafiz said, 'Professor Yunus has assigned four or five ministries to each adviser. Especially since they have no experience. He has to think about it. He appointed the good ones from among the non-political people. If necessary, these students take more people from those who have done the anti-discrimination movement. But they have played in the Awami League team in the past, we don't want to see them in the cabinet.'

Pointing out that the main task of the interim government is to transfer power to an elected government, he said, 'The government talks a lot, but one thing is not heard from their mouths when the elections will be held. When will the election commission be formed? Election Commission should be formed with non-political and knowledgeable people. If the law has to be changed by ordinance, it can be done quickly.'

“We have always said that elections should be held within a reasonable time. I personally think, one year is enough time to hold elections' – said Hafiz Uddin.

Stating that Awami League has no right to do politics in Bangladesh, he said, 'The damage they have done to Bangladesh, I thought after December 16, 1971 – we will get a beautiful country. Democracy will always be in the bosom of Bangladesh, there will be no discrimination. Human dignity, equality, social justice will be established immediately. But as time passed by, the spirit of liberation war slowly drifted away. We got a one-party state.'

Calling for a quick reform of the election system, Major. Hafiz said, 'They made arrangements so that no one can influence the vote by giving money in the election. National Parliament has become a club of millionaires. A school teacher can choose.'

He said, 'We will see another thing about the August Revolution, the government that will come to power in the future will have the August Revolution in mind. They will not dare to loot like before. Be it BNP or Jamaat, the experience of the movement will be on everyone's mind.

Hafiz said that Sheikh Hasina had asked the chiefs of the forces to kill 10,000 more people before leaving the country. I used to think that if God fulfills my one wish, then I, my team, my family will not want anything for myself. I want only one thing – this Awami League should not come back to Bangladesh.'

In the meeting, the Chairman of Bangladesh Labor Party Dr. Mostafizur Rahman Iran. Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, General Secretary of Public Forum, Albert P Costa, President of Bangladesh Christian Association, Professor Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, Chairman of ZANIPOP and others were also present in the meeting.
