German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will visit India on a three-day visit on Defense Thursday i.e. today. During this, he will hold extensive talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on issues of trade, green energy, promotion of bilateral strategic relations. Scholz had earlier visited India twice last year. He had come to India in February last year for a bilateral state visit and to attend the G20 leaders' summit in September.
PM Modi and German Chancellor Scholz will co-chair the seventh Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC) on October 25. Chancellor Scholz will also be accompanied by senior ministers from his cabinet during the IGC consultation. Under the whole-of-government framework IGC, ministers from both sides hold discussions in their respective areas of responsibility and report to the Prime Minister and Chancellor on the outcomes of the discussions.
The Ministry of External Affairs had recently issued a statement regarding his visit to India. It was said that Scholz would make an official visit to India on the invitation of PM Modi. During this, leaders from both sides will hold bilateral talks on security and defense cooperation, opportunities for talent, economic cooperation, green and sustainable development partnership and cooperation in the field of emerging and strategic technologies. Important regional and global development issues will also be discussed. The two leaders will also address the 18th Asia Pacific Conference of German Business to be held in New Delhi on 25 October.
