Peace on the border should be priority, PM Modi bluntly meets Xi Jinping after 5 years

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. In the meeting, PM Modi bluntly said that maintaining peace and stability on the border should be our priority. Let us tell you that this is the first meeting at the top level between the two countries after the Eastern Ladakh border dispute arose in May 2020.

The bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping come at a time when just two days ago India and China agreed to an agreement on patrolling by their armies along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. This is being considered a major success from India's side in ending the deadlock that has been going on for four years.

During the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “We are holding a formal meeting after 5 years. We believe that India-China relations are not only for our people but also for peace globally, It is also very important for stability and progress. We welcome the consensus reached on the border issues in the last 4 years. Maintaining peace and stability on the border should remain a priority for our relations.”

Sharing pictures of the meeting on 'X', PM Modi wrote, “Met President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Kazan BRICS summit. India-China relations are important for the peoples of our countries and for regional and global peace and stability. Mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual sensitivity will guide bilateral relations.

Let us tell you that in November 2022, PM Modi and Xi greeted each other and had a brief conversation at a dinner organized by the Indonesian President for G-20 leaders. Last year also in August, PM Modi and the Chinese President had a brief and informal conversation in Johannesburg during the BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) summit.
