Two convicted in Canadian court of killing Sikh businessman acquitted in Air India bombing case

A bomb blast also occurred at Tokyo airport on the day of the attack on the Air India flight. At that time, two workers of that airport were killed. The bomb is believed to have been brought to attack another Air India flight bound for Bangkok. But before that it exploded.

The case comes into renewed focus amid rising tensions between India and Canada. In June 2023, the diplomatic relationship between the two countries began to sour after Canadian allegations that agents of the Indian government were involved in the murder of Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a pro-Khalistan Sikh leader.

Last May, investigators looked into whether the Indian government had anything to do with the murder of Sikh businessman Ripudhaman Singh. Ripudhaman Singh was once a supporter of the separatist Khalistan movement. The movement has strong support among Sikhs living in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.
