India sends humanitarian aid to war-torn Lebanon, first consignment of 11 tonnes sent

The Indian government has sent humanitarian aid to Lebanon, a Central Asian country embroiled in war with Israel. While sharing information on its social media handle, the Ministry of External Affairs said that 33 tonnes of essential medical supplies are being sent by India to the crisis-hit country, out of which the first consignment of 11 tonnes has been sent today. Lebanon, a country suffering from Israeli air and ground attacks, is constantly facing shortage of medicines and medical supplies, hence this relief material sent by India will provide relief to the people there.

In a post issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, it was said that this is the first tranche of 33 tonnes of assistance, which includes cardiovascular medicines, NSAIDs, anti-inflammatory agents, antibiotics and anesthetics. We will supply the remaining in the coming days. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Jaiswal said in his post that amid the increasing violence in southern Lebanon, India is concerned about the safety of UN peacekeepers and especially the troops deployed on the Blue Line. Recently, a few days ago, there were reports of attacks on UNIFIL campus.

During the press conference, Jaiswal said that we take the security of the Peace Keeping Force very seriously. We have called for all action to be taken to maintain the security of the UNIFIL campus. He said that none of our soldiers are deployed on the Blue Line, but the situation is being closely monitored.

This process of the Foreign Ministry has come at a time when the Israeli PM has asked the Peace Keeping Force to leave Lebanon. Recently, two Indonesian soldiers of the Peace Keeping Force were injured in a blast from an Israeli Army tank. Only after this, considering the safety of these soldiers, Israeli PM Netanyahu had called on UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to withdraw the peacekeeping force.
