Brewery Kronenbourg cushions the shock of soaring fuel prices thanks to… the train

In the heart of the Kronenbourg factory in Obernai (Bas-Rhin), the storage space for finished products opens onto railway tracks. Wagons heavily marked and which seem to have already been running well are lined up on the tracks, ready to take bottles and cans of beer throughout the national territory.

A historic logistics strategy for the Alsatian brewer, now part of the Danish giant Carlsberg. A choice further reinforced in 2008 with the creation of three logistics platforms and the formation of trains. Even if, since then, Fret SNCF, the SNCF freight sector, has disappeared. Kronenbourg now works with two specialized companies, Hexafret and Captrain, but also Ermewa for wagon rental.

“We train 450 trains per year, which transport a total of 450,000 palletsexplains Vincent Petit, logistics director. In 70% of cases, a beer produced by Kronenbourg and sold in supermarkets took the train. »

The empty bottles also circulate in the wagons before arriving on the production lines and being filled with Kronenbourg, 1664, Tourtel or Grimbergen brand beer. Beer kegs, on the other hand, are delivered to bars and restaurants by road. Likewise, trucks also provide additional travel between trains and supermarkets and deliveries to areas not served by rail.
