PM Trudeau made a public announcement of the removal of Indian diplomats in a press conference late night (Indian time) on October 14.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has accused Indian government agents of indulging in intelligence gathering, target killing, threatening Canadian citizens and violence.

Citing evidence from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Trudeau claimed that six Indian government agents expelled from Canada were involved in activities that threaten public safety.

Trudeau also said that Canada made several attempts to work with the Indian government on these matters, but India refused to help each time.

Actually, this whole matter heated up after a letter sent by the Trudeau government. In the letter, the Indian High Commissioner and some other diplomats were named as suspects in the murder of the Canadian citizen.

After this Canada asked 6 diplomats of India to leave the country. In response, India has asked 6 Canadian diplomats, including Canada's Acting High Commissioner Stewart Ross Wheeler, to leave the country.

Important points of Justin Trudeau's statement…

  • Last year's events and today's revelations have shocked people. Especially the Indo-Canadian and Sikh communities. Many people are angry, upset and scared. I understand, this should not happen.
  • As Prime Minister, it is my responsibility to reassure those who feel that their security has been compromised, but most importantly, it is my responsibility to take action.
  • Canada-India have a long history of mutual relations and trade. But what we are seeing now, we cannot tolerate it. We fully respect India's sovereignty and territorial integrity and expect India to do the same for us.
  • I spoke to PM Modi last week. Told him how important the meeting between our National Security Advisors in Singapore would be. He knew about that meeting and I had put pressure on him.
  • The Indian government made a mistake in thinking that it could engage in criminal activities against Canadians on Canadian soil, whether it be murder or extortion. This cannot be tolerated at all.
  • No country, especially a democracy, can accept a fundamental violation of its sovereignty. We had expected that India would respect our sovereignty and territorial integrity, but it did not happen.
  • This is not a decision that will sour Canada-India relations. When we learned that India was possibly behind the murder of (Hardeep Singh) Nijjar, we asked the Indian government to work with us to fix it.
  • India rejected all our demands, rejecting our efforts to deal with this problem. So we had to break the chain between Indian diplomats and criminal organizations in Canada.

Canadian Police said, Indian agents gathered a lot of information

Canadian Police Commissioner Mike Duheme also held a press conference. Said, 'Indian diplomats and officials in Canada have misused their position and secretly gathered information for the Indian government. For this, Indian officials used agents. Some of these agents were threatened and pressurized into working with the Indian government.

He told that the information collected by India is used to target South Asian people. We had given evidence of this to the Indian government officials and appealed to them to stop the violence and cooperate.

Khalistani terrorist Nijjar was the reason for tension between the two countries, he was murdered last year.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar was murdered on 18 June 2023. In September, the Canadian PM had accused India of this murder.

On the evening of June 18, 2023, Nijjar was shot dead while leaving a Gurudwara in Surrey city of Canada. On September 18 last year, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau had accused the Indian government of involvement in Nijjar's murder, which India rejected.

After this, on May 3, three accused of Nijjar's murder were arrested. All three accused are Indians. Canadian police said that the police had been keeping an eye on them for several months. They believe that India had assigned them the task of killing Nijjar. Then India had said on this matter that it is an internal matter of Canada.

Why is Nijjar issue important for Trudeau? Canada holds parliamentary elections in October 2025. Khalistan supporters are considered a big vote bank of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's party. However, last month itself, Khalistan supporter Jagmeet Singh's NDP party, which was part of the Trudeau government, has withdrawn its support.

Due to the break of the alliance, the Trudeau government was reduced to minority. However, in the majority test held on October 1, Trudeau's Liberal Party got the support of another party. Because of this, Trudeau passed the floor test.

According to the 2021 census, the total population of Canada is 3.89 crores. Of these, 18 lakh are Indians. These constitute 5% of the total population of Canada. Of these, more than 7 lakh are Sikhs, who constitute 2% of the total population.

Nijjar went to Canada 27 years ago, declared a terrorist 3 years ago

PM Trudeau claimed to have met PM Modi Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday said he met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit in Laos. Trudeau said that during this meeting, discussions were held to work on important issues.

“I emphasized that we have some work to do,” Trudeau said at a press conference in Laos. Trudeau declined to provide further details about the conversation.

However, according to Indian media house NDTV, sources in the Ministry of External Affairs had denied this meeting and said that no such meeting took place between the two leaders.
