Consent to most groups in forming NCC: Ali Riaz

Most political parties have consent to the formation of the National Constitutional Council (NCC), Vice-President of the National Unity Commission Professor Ali Riaz.

He said this after the dialogue with the Commission at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Wednesday (June 5th).

Ali Riyaz said, “After discussing with the political parties, it has been found that they are realizing the need for participatory structure in the recruitment process in the constitutional institution. Most of the parties have agreed, though some parties have disagreed. '

He said that the Commission did not see the name change as a big issue to achieve the main goal, even though some objected to the name 'National Constitutional Council' proposed by the Constitution Reform Commission.

“We have said that the structure and effectiveness are main, there is no need to create a stagnation with the name,” he said. The discussion has progressed and it will continue till next week. '

Regarding the presidential election process, Ali Riyaz said, “We have two proposals. One is the presidential election in the electoral system and the other reforms the existing provisions and rearrange the power of the President. Everyone has agreed on this. '

He said that the Commission and the Constitution Reform Commission will jointly review the matter and make it to the next discussion.

Ali Riaz said that the district coordination council had less discussed in the dialogue, “Some parties questioned its needs, but it was not discussed in detail.”

Referring to the accountability structure of the council, he said, “According to the proposal, the members of the council will be elected representatives. Since they are elected by the people's vote, it will be possible to ensure accountability through them. '

Referring to the walkout of the two political parties in the dialogue, Ali Riyaz said, “There will be disagreements and resentment among so many parties. The most important thing, however, is that most parties participating in the dialogue have shown cooperative attitude. The discussion was peaceful and constructive. '

He said that the presidential election process and other unresolved issues will be discussed tomorrow (June 7th).
