The government will create 6 million IT professionals by 2030


The government plans to create 6 million to 8 million skilled IT professionals by 2030. Faiz Ahmad Tayyab, Policy Advisor (Coordination and Reform) of the Information and Communication Technology Department gave this information at a seminar titled 'Bangladesh: The Emerging ICT Powerhouse' at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in Purbachal on Saturday (January 18).

In this seminar organized by Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), the success of the country's information technology sector and the possibility of establishing leadership in the global technology world were highlighted.

Faiz Ahmad Tayyub said, 'We plan to create 6 to 8 million skilled IT professionals by 2030. We have set a target of contributing 5 percent to the GDP from the IT sector by building the right image, reviewing the previously undertaken projects and establishing a strong data governance structure.

He said that within this year Bangladesh National Data Architecture design will be implemented and proper ICT master plan will be formulated. In addition, IT infrastructure development is underway by renovating unplanned hi-tech parks.

JICA Bangladesh Head Ichiguchi Tomohide, Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Director General Baby Rani Karmakar, JETRO Chief Representative in Bangladesh Yuji Ando and Kotra Executive Director Samsoo Kim were present as special guests at the seminar.

Dr. Basis administrator in the welcome speech. Muhammad Mehedi Hasan said, 'BASIS, which started its journey in 1998 with 18 members, is now a national trade organization with more than 2,650 successful member organizations. This journey has created millions of jobs and created world-class innovative products and services. In the fiscal year 2023-24, Bangladesh exported US$ 840 million ICT services to 137 countries.

Rafel Kabir, chairman of the BASIS Support Committee, presented the keynote address in the seminar. He said, 'Building skilled manpower is the most important to realize the future potential of the country's information technology sector. We can establish global leadership by properly training and guiding the vast talent pool of youth.'

The seminar was conducted by Fida Haque, a member of the BASIS support committee. At this time BASIS members Raisul Kabir and Syed Musharraf Ali presented the success story of their company.

In addition, in a video message, the coordinator of the technology development sector of the International Trade Organization ITC, Martin Labbe, highlighted the success story of the information technology sector in Bangladesh.
