An exceptional Durga idol of Bangladesh. The color of this idol is red. For more than three hundred years this red Durga Puja is being celebrated in Panchgaon of Rajnagar Upazila of Moulbi Bazar. Locals believe that the Goddess herself established the Durgabari there. This idol is popularly known as 'Lal Durga'. There is no such Durga idol anywhere else in Bangladesh.

But why the color of the idol here is red? According to legend, Sarbananda Das, a resident of Panchgaon, worked for Munshi in Assam's Shivsagar. He went to Kamakhya to offer puja. He asked the locals for a five-year-old girl for puja. When Sarbananda worshiped the little girl, her complexion turned red. Sarbananda was surprised and shocked. His faith is born, the goddess herself has filled the girl. That girl wants to give him a 'boon' at one point.

He wants the goddess to come to his birthplace Panchgaon every year during Durga Puja. Then the goddess informed that the color of that idol should be red. Since then, the red idol has been worshiped in Panchgaon. Hindus from different parts of the country come here to worship. They believe that the goddess is awake here. Panchgaon takes the appearance of a traditional fair during Puja.

Sanjay Das, Sarbananda's successor, said that Lal Durga Puja has been performed there for more than three hundred years. Only in 1971, the idol was not erected during the liberation war. Puja happened that year.
