Arsenal's goal celebration at Sporting Stadium


He scored one goal himself, another was scored by Bukayo Saka. Arsenal thrashed Sporting 5-1 in a Champions League match at the Estadio Jose Alvalade. The Gunners achieved their biggest away win in the competition in 21 years. After 13 months, the Portuguese club lost at home.

Gabriel Martinelli put Arsenal ahead in the seventh minute. Jurien Timber's low cross was deflected off the back post. Kai Haverge then doubled the lead in the 22nd minute. He gave a simple finish by entering the box and raising the ball.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya did not allow Sporting's 17-year-old winger Giovani Kuenda's great effort to close the gap. Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes made it 3-0 just before halftime. He headed home from Declan Rice's corner.

Arsenal started the game hoping to keep the rhythm in the second half. But the goal was paid by the Portuguese club. Inacio put his team back in the match with a superb volley at the front post from Francisco Trincao's corner.

Arsenal quickly responded with two more goals. Ousmane Diomande fouls Martin Odegaard in the box. Saka coolly scored from the penalty. Leandro Trossard scored the fifth goal in the 82nd minute. It was the first time since 2003 that the Gunners had the biggest away win in the Champions League. They won on the same scoreline at Inter Milan this time.

Arsenal topped Sporting with 10 points in the 36-team table.
