India sent more than 10,000 troops to Manipur

In view of the renewed violence in the Indian state of Manipur, the central government of India has decided to deploy 10,000 more troops there. NDTV said that a total of 288 companies of the central forces are being deployed in the state bordering Myanmar.

Manipur Chief Security Adviser Kuldeep Singh said around 10,800 troops under the newly added 90 companies have already reached the state capital Imphal. These forces are being deployed at various places to protect lives and property of common people and keep vigilance in sensitive areas.

Kuldeep Singh said, 'We are deploying these forces in various areas to protect lives and property of common people. It will be possible to cover all areas within a few days. We have taken full security measures.'

According to NDTV, 258 people have been killed in the state of Manipur so far in the communal violence that started in May 2023. Around 3,000 weapons looted from the police armory have been recovered since the violence started, Kuldeep Singh said.

He further informed that the State Police, Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force (BSF), Army, Assam Rifles, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Armed Border Force (SSB) are working together to restore stability in Manipur.

It is to be noted that in the incident of new violence, it has been alleged that the rebels killed a woman (mother of three children) of the Hamar community in Jairaon village of Jiribam, Manipur on November 7. In retaliation, Kuki rebels attacked Barbekra village in Jiribam on November 11. In this attack, 10 Kuki rebels were killed in a clash with the central forces. The rest of the rebels fled, taking six members of a family from the Meitei community as hostages. Two more senior Meitei members were later killed by Kuki rebels. The bodies of the hostages, including a child, were later found in a river.

NDTV reported that new standard operating procedures are being developed to deal with the current crisis in Manipur. Kuldeep Singh said that security will be increased in marginal areas and national highways through this.
