The government of Bangladesh has taken an initiative to bring back the Bangladeshis trapped in the ongoing war situation in Lebanon.
In cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment, Bangladesh Embassy, Beirut, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 82 Bangladeshis were repatriated to Dhaka on an Emirates Airlines flight yesterday at 11 pm.
Among the returned Bangladeshis, the repatriation of 76 was done at full government expense and the repatriation of the remaining 6 was done with funding from the International Organization for Migration.
76 Bangladeshi returnees registered at Bangladesh Embassy, Beirut. On the other hand, the repatriation of 6 persons registered with the IOM was financed by the organization.
So far, a total of 697 Bangladeshis have been brought back to the country in 11 flights from war-torn Lebanon.
Upon arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, they were received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment, and officials of IOM. At this time, Foreign Ministry Director Mustafa Jamil Khan spoke to the returning Bangladeshis and inquired about their condition.
A Bangladeshi has been reported killed in a bomb attack in the ongoing conflict in Lebanon. In this context, all those who wish to return to the country are being brought back safely at the government expense. Besides, the Bangladesh Embassy is working to ensure the safety of those who do not want to return.
