Three top officials including Chief Engineer Raihan Badsha of Education Engineering Directorate (EED) have been made OSD (Officer on Special Duty) on charges of corruption and inefficiency.
At the same time, Jalal Uddin Chowdhury, the supervising engineer of Chittagong circle of EED, has been appointed as the new chief engineer of the Directorate of Education and Engineering.
This change was made in a notification issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education on Wednesday (November 20).
Others who became OSDs are Head Office Supervising Engineer Afroza Begum and Sameer Kumar Rajak Das.
Moreover, EED Sylhet Circle Supervising Engineer Jahangir Alam and Rajshahi Circle Supervising Engineer Altaf Hossain have been posted to the head office.
It is known that the three engineers who became OSD were members of the Bangabandhu Engineering Council. Among these, Raihan Badshah was given the routine duty of chief engineer on August 24. However, many allegations were made against him. He has been accused of defrauding contractors several times. Besides, there were also departmental cases. Engineers also said that it does not have ACR.
Meanwhile, at least 116 educational institutions in Sylhet have been accused of concealing corruption against Raihan Badshah. It was also alleged that he had forcibly sent Sylhet's executive engineer on indefinite leave to cover up corruption.
And there are many allegations against Sameer Kumar Rajak Das of not being in office regularly and harassing contractors by withholding documents and drawing-designs.
