After his successful Brazil tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Guyana on the intervening night of 19-20 November. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 56 years. PM Modi will reach Guyana on Thursday in the last leg of his three-nation tour. India's High Commissioner to Guyana, Amit S Telang, said the visit is a symbol of deep friendship, mutual trust and cooperation. This will be the first visit of an Indian PM to this South American country after 56 years. Earlier, Indira Gandhi had visited Guyana.

What happened at the G-20 conference in Rio de Janeiro

Earlier in the G-20 summit, even though the major economies of the world stressed on stopping the global conflicts affecting the entire geo-politics, but no concrete plan could be agreed upon for efforts for this. In a joint statement issued after extensive discussions, the G-20 leaders called for a joint fight against hunger and poverty, more aid to war-torn Gaza, and an immediate end to hostilities in Middle East Asia and Ukraine. The joint statement condemned the conflicts without holding anyone responsible. Referring to the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, emphasis was laid on taking steps to help. The agenda of the G-20 leaders' meeting on Tuesday, the second day of the summit, focused on climate change. In his proposal, host Brazilian President Lula da Silva emphasized the need to ensure a sustainable future for future generations. He said, it is necessary for G-20 countries to immediately implement emission reduction targets, because its member countries are responsible for 80 percent of greenhouse gas emissions.

Brazilian President Lula da Silva praised PM Modi for the successful organization of G-20 in New Delhi during the bilateral meeting. According to sources, President Lula said that he tried to repeat many things which were inspired by the summit held in India. He said, we took forward India's decisions. Brazil wanted to conduct the conference with the same level of efficiency as India had done.
