Google's Digital Wellbeing app is getting a new 'Screen Time Reminder' feature. This feature will help to break the addiction to mobile phone. Instead of blocking users from the app after spending too much time in the app, they will only be shown reminders on the phone screen.
The feature was first spotted last month through code analysis of the Digital Wellbeing app. Now it is showing up on Android phones of some users. However, Google has made some changes to the feature. Now it will be called 'Screen Time Reminder' instead of 'Mindful Nudge'.
This feature will show notifications at the top of the screen when a selected app is used for a long time. In the app users will see the elapsed time will be shown in the notification. This will motivate users to close the app and use the time better.
This feature can be activated from the Digital Wellbeing and Parental Control app by going to the settings of the Android phone. You can then select from a list which apps can enable this feature. After using the app for a long time, the feature will automatically send notifications.
A new feature in the Digital Wellbeing app can help users become more aware of how much time they're spending on their phones. This allows them to make better decisions about how to use their time and which apps to spend time on. However, digital well-being apps generally already have such a feature. But the key difference here is that it won't block users from using apps.
