Chinese President Xi Jinping held a meeting with US President Joe Biden in Peru. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum in Lima on Saturday (November 16). At this time, he promised to work with the next Trump administration. British news agency Reuters reported this news in a report.
Biden and Xi met for about two hours in their first meeting in seven months. During the meeting, Xi held final talks with outgoing President Biden on disputes ranging from cybercrime to trade, Taiwan, the South China Sea and Russia. Then he promised to work with the incoming US administration of Donald Trump.
Xi said that despite Trump's election, “the Chinese goal of a stable, sound and sustainable US-China relationship remains unchanged.”
In addition, Xi acknowledged the 'up and down' relationship between the two countries when he met with Biden and said, 'China is ready to work with the new US administration to maintain communication, expand cooperation and manage differences.'
In Xi, Biden said the two leaders did not always agree, but their discussions were 'candid' and robust'.
Meanwhile, President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to impose a 60 percent tariff on Chinese imports into the United States as part of an 'America First' trade package. However, Beijing opposed this move. In addition, Trump plans to appoint some hardliners to China, such as Representative Mike Waltz, as US Senator Marco Rubio as Secretary of State and National Security Adviser in his administration.
