Jhansi Medical College Fire | Jhansi fire: All deceased children identified, one newborn still missing, NHRC seeks answers from UP government and DGP


Jhansi Medical College Fire Update: A major fire broke out in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Maharani Lakshmibai Medical College in Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday (November 15) night and 10 children died in this tragic accident. 10 children who died in this accident have been identified, although one child is still missing and efforts are underway to find him. All the 10 children who were deceased have been identified and their bodies have been removed from there and the injured children are being treated in medical colleges and private hospitals.

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is also strict regarding this accident. The Human Rights Commission issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh and the Director General of Police (DGP) regarding this accident and sought a detailed report in the matter within a week. NHRC said that this report should contain information about the status of the FIR in the case, action taken against the responsible officers, medical treatment being received by the injured and compensation given to the families of the victims.

Let us tell you that 10 newborn babies died in a fire in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Maharani Lakshmibai Medical College in Jhansi district. Apart from these deaths, a total of 16 children were injured while 37 children were saved.

Fire broke out due to short circuit – CMS Sachin Mahor

Regarding this matter, Chief Medical Superintendent of Jhansi Medical College, Sachin Mahor had said, “The fire broke out due to short circuit, at that time 49 children were admitted there. UP Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak expressed grief over the Jhansi Medical College fire incident. Said that our sympathies are with the victim's family. An investigation has been ordered into this incident and the report will come within 24 hours, action will be taken against the culprits.

UP government and PMO announced ex-gratia amount

Whereas the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Has expressed deep sorrow over the incident that happened in NICU of Jhansi Medical College. Along with this, on the instructions of the Chief Minister, the parents of the deceased newborn babies will be given an assistance of Rs 5 lakh each from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and the families of the injured will be given Rs 50 thousand each. The PMO also announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh each to the family of the deceased.
