An official told TOI, “Rohit Sharma will not play in the first Test. He wants to spend some more time with his family and the new guest in the house and the Indian Cricket Board fully respects his decision.”
Will Shubman Gill play the first test?
Indian team's top order batsman Shubman Gill is reported to be injured during practice. According to the information, his left thumb has been fractured due to which there is serious doubt over his participation in the match starting from November 22. ESPNcricinfo has reported that India A batsman Devdutt Padikkal has been asked to stay with the team in Perth. Padikkal will be part of the main team or will be among the reserve players.
How serious is KL Rahul's injury?
After Rohit Sharma did not play the first Test match, there was news of his replacement KL Rahul getting injured. KL Rahul was hit on his right elbow by a bouncing ball from Prasidh Krishna during the team's intra-squad match before the Perth Test. After being treated by the medical staff, he tried to bat, but soon had to leave the field on 29 runs. He did not return to bat again. However, according to the report of Times of India, the injury is not a serious matter and the team management, out of caution, had prohibited him from batting.
