Nasrallah was the Secretary General of Hezbollah for three decades, now this post has become vacant after his death.
Hezbollah Chief Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli attack on Friday, September 27. Israel used an 80-ton bomb on Hezbollah's headquarters in Beirut city of Lebanon. Apart from Nasrallah, many senior Hezbollah officials have also been killed in this attack. These included Ali Karaki, commander of Hezbollah's Southern Front.
After the killing of Nasrallah, the post of Secretary General (organization head) of Hezbollah is vacant. Nasrallah became the head of the organization in 1992. He was one of the leading faces of the Shia movement in Lebanon. The death of Nasrallah, who was the most important face of Hezbollah for three decades, has dealt a major blow to the organization.
Apart from Nasrallah and Karaki, Hezbollah's top military commander Fuad Shukar (on July 30) and elite commando unit founder Ibrahim Akil (on September 20) have also been killed.
In such a situation, the big question is who will be the next chief of Hezbollah… After the killing of most of the top leadership of Hezbollah, two names are leading in this race. The first of these is Hashem Saifidin and the second is Naeem Qasim.
Hashem Saffieddin: Major Contender for Hezbollah Chief Hashem Saffieddin's name is at the forefront of the race for the next Secretary General of Hezbollah Chief. Saffieddin is a member of Hezbollah's Executive Council and a cousin of Hassan Nasrallah.
She was born in 1964 in the city of Der Kanun al-Nahar, Lebanon. Both Saifieddin and Nasrallah have received religious education together. Both of them studied together in major Shia education centers like Qoum in Iran and Najaf in Iraq.
Both Nasrallah and Saffiedine joined Hezbollah in its early days. Both were recalled from Iran during Islamic studies in the 1990s. In 1992, Nasrallah became Secretary General of Hezbollah.
Just two years after Nasrallah became Hezbollah chief, Saffieddin was also made the head of the organization's Executive Council.
For the last three decades, Saifieddin has been looking after matters like funding of Hezbollah and education of the organization. Whereas Nasrallah looked after the strategic matters of the organization. Because of this, he seems to be ahead in the race to become the next chief.
Furthermore, Saifieddin comes from a prominent Shia family. Many of his family members have been Shia religious scholars and members of the Lebanese Parliament. Saffieddin's brother Abdullah works as Hezbollah's representative in Iran. Saffieddin also has close ties with Iran.
Saffieddin's son Redha is married to the daughter of former Iranian military general Qasim Sulemani. Qasim Sulemani was killed in an American attack in 2020.
America and Saudi Arabia have declared Saifidin a terrorist.
Hezbollah's number 2 Qasim also in the race Hezbollah's Deputy Secretary General Naeem Qasim (71) is also in the race to become the head of the organization. Qassim is also said to be the number 2 of the Shia movement and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Qassim was born in 1953 in the Kfar Kila village of Nabatiyeh in southern Lebanon.
In the 1970s, Qasim became part of the Shia Amal movement in Lebanon along with Imam Musa al-Sadr. He later became involved with the Hezbollah movement in the early 1980s and was among the founding members of the organization.
Qasim has been providing religious education in Beirut for decades. Qasim became the deputy secretary general of Hezbollah in 1991. He is also a member of Hezbollah's Sura Council.
Qassim has been one of Hezbollah's leading religious scholars.

Hassan Nasrallah, whom Israel used to call its enemy number 1, has been killed. In a speech given on September 19, he had threatened to take revenge from Israel. Nasrallah had said-
Israel tried to commit genocide in Lebanon through pager blast. They will have to pay the price, attacked at the right place, right time and in the right way.
