How is the ad hoc committee of 9 federations?

The National Sports Council (NSC) formed an ad hoc committee of 9 federations yesterday after scrutinizing the report given by the search committee. This was announced in a statement signed by the secretary of the National Sports Council, Aminul Islam, after 9:30 pm.

According to section 21 of the National Sports Council Act 2018, the previous committee of 9 federations has been dissolved and a new committee has been formed. These nine federations are respectively-Bridge, Tennis, Squash, Kabaddi, Athletics, Billiards-Snooker, Basketball, Chess and Hockey. Where Syed Mahbubur Rahman, managing director of Mutual Trust Bank, got the responsibility of president of Bridge Federation. Former player Abdul Hai Sarkar has been made the president of tennis. Apart from this, Police IGP Moinul Islam has become the president of Kabaddi Federation.

After two months of the search committee formed last August 30, nine federations finally met the new committee. Regarding the process of formation of the committee of the remaining federations, the convener of the search committee Zobayedur Rahman Rana told Ajker newspaper, 'Since the committee of nine federations has been formed. Now we will send draft proposals for 15-20 more federations. The ministry will see it and reveal it gradually.'

However, Mohammad Sanaul Haque, Joint Secretary of Sports-1 Division, who took care of the formation of the Federation Committee from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, told this reporter a day ago that he had not received any report from the search committee. He was a bit annoyed after hearing the question about the committee. He also explained the reason why he was upset, 'many people called to know the matter. Can't answer anyone. We have not yet received the report of the search committee. We have formed a search committee from the ministry. They have not given the reports yet. We will start the work once we get the reports. We need to get the report, don't we?'

Although the control of the country's 55 federations-associations-organizations is in the hands of the National Sports Council, the authority of the president or the formation of committees is entirely with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Council jointly embarked on a clean-up campaign to free the sports arena from party influence. As a part of that, the ministry has given ad hoc committee to 9 federations.
