Every year thousands of Sikh devotees visit Kartarpur Sahib located in Pakistan.
The government of Pakistan's Punjab province has asked Indian Sikhs coming to Kartarpur Sahib to bring US dollars in place of rupees. The reason behind this decision has been said to be the fraud being done to Indian citizens.
In fact, Indians were being given Pakistani currency notes of lower value than the fixed price in exchange for Indian currency notes. Ramesh Singh Arora, Minister in Punjab Government of Pakistan, said that complaints have come to the fore about Indian Sikhs receiving currency notes of less than the fixed value in exchange for their money.
This decision has been taken due to complaints. He also said that Indian Sikhs do not need to pay extra for the facilities here.
On November 14 this year, thousands of Sikh devotees can visit Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan on the occasion of the 555th birth anniversary of the first Guru of Sikhs, Guru Nanak Devji. Last year, about 3 thousand Sikh devotees had visited Kartarpur Sahib on this occasion.
Ramesh Singh Arora is the first Sikh minister of Pakistan. He is also the Chairman of the Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee in Pakistan.
Guru Nanak spent the last days of his life here Kartarpur Sahib is located near the Ravi River in Narowal district of Pakistan. Its history is more than 500 years old. It is believed that it was established by Sikh Guru Nanak Dev in 1522. He spent the last years of his life here and left his body here. Therefore, this city holds special significance for the Sikhs.
Kartarpur is the main religious place of Sikhs. The Kartarpur Corridor was opened on 9 November 2019. It was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi from India's side and the then PM Imran Khan from Pakistan's side. It connects the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district of Punjab with the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.
The 4 kilometer corridor allows Indian pilgrims to enter the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib without a visa. Earlier, people had to get a visa and go there via Lahore, which was a long route. At present the fee to go here is 20 dollars, which is collected by the Government of Pakistan.

Abdul Basit, who was Pakistan's High Commissioner to India, has given a controversial statement. Speaking on a Pakistani TV channel, Basit said that India should take Kartarpur Sahib, the holy pilgrimage site of the Sikhs, and give the entire Kashmir to Pakistan.
