The Chairman of Bangladesh Institute of Social Research (BISR) Trust commented that the general supporters of Awami League have a role behind the success of the July student movement. Khurshid Alam He was the national planner and policy maker of the caretaker government in 2008.
This internationally renowned sociologist and criminologist said, 'Awami League's ordinary supporters also have a role behind the success of the July student movement. About 95 percent of ordinary supporters of Awami League support this movement.
He said these things at the Bangladesh Institute of Social Research (BISR) Trust's special seminar on contemporary issues titled 'July Uprising, Inclusion and Justice: Democracy in the Public' at Lalmatia in the capital on Thursday.
Prominent theorist and development model maker. Khurshid Alam also said, 'Not only Awami League opponents have succeeded in this movement, it has turned into a mass movement with the participation of ordinary Awami League supporters. So now there is no opportunity to ignore the common man.'
Associate Professor of Sociology Department of Dhaka University in the seminar. Samina Lutfa said, “The three months after Sheikh Hasina's departure from power seemed to be 'mob's mulluk'.” Those in the interim government are trying to reform. It is not right to comment on their success and failure now. Time must be given.'
Sociology teacher Lutfa also said, 'This is not a revolutionary government. The students did not revolutionize, they staged a coup. However, it is important to implement the hopes and aspirations of the people. Awami League government cannot behave like this. Currently an advisor is behaving like an earlier Awami minister. Be careful in this case too. Most of the government councils are involved with NGOs. Apart from this, he also commented that the Armed Forces is still a major player.
In the seminar, Professor of Sociology and Humanities Department of Independent University. Bakhtiar Ahmed said, 'When the movement was at its height, the ordinary Awami League supporters also showed solidarity online or in the field. In this movement, father and son were seen to be on two sides. The young society has shown how uncompromising it can be on the question of policy.
He emphasized on overall unity and said, 'Why is it being said that unity is needed? Because now there is no unity. Everyone should come forward.'
According to Prof. Bakhtiar, there is no precedent for showing respect or taking quick action on the movement of students and teachers during the previous government. Until 1990 we were inspired by the ideal of socialist justice as an alternative ideal. There is no alternative ideal now. The current society has become a society of fantasy without alternatives.
Researchers, teachers and students from different universities of the country and abroad participated in this special seminar in a hybrid way.
