Pakistan dominated the ODIs but succumbed to Australia in the T20Is. Ajira defeated them by 29 runs in the first match of the rain-interrupted three-match series.
The match was delayed by three hours due to thunderstorms and continuous rain in Brisbane. The match of 20 overs became 7 overs. Pakistan captain Rizwan invited hosts Australia to bat at the start due to rain. But the hopes of taking the ball early were dashed by the two Aussie openers Jake Fraser McGurk and Matthew Short. He added 16 runs in the first over. In the second over, Nasim Shah returned McGurk (9) to break the pair. That didn't help either. Promoted to bat, Glenn Maxwell, who dropped to number three, stormed the books. Nasim hit 4 fours in the second over. Short (7) returned quickly in between but Maxwell Storm set the pace of the match. In the sixth over, Abbas was dismissed for 43 runs off 19 balls before returning to Afridi. It had 5 fours and 3 sixes. As a result, he is also the man of the match. Tim David (10) returns in the same over but by then the score is 73 for 3! After that, Marcus Stoinis' cameo in the last over took the innings score close to 100. Australia lost 4 wickets 93. Stoinis was unbeaten on 21 off just 7 balls with 2 fours and 1 six.
Abbas Afridi took two wickets for Pakistan. Shaheen and Nasim Shah took one each.
The visitors got off to a poor start in reply. Pakistan lost the wicket of Shahibzada Farhan (8) and scored 12 runs. After that Barlet shook the team in the second over. Rizwan (0), Usman Khan (4) returned to batting after his double hit. Lost 5 wickets for just 20 runs in 3 overs. It also had the wicket of Pranabhumi Babar Azam (3). Abbas Afridi tried to save the standard with a 10-ball unbeaten 20-run cameo innings towards the end in a procession of teammates. In the end they can score 64 runs for 9 wickets. Abbas Afridi had the highest innings. Towards the tail, Hasibullah Khan's 12 runs and Shaheen's 11 runs narrowed the gap.
