Yemen's Houthi rebels targeted two American warships in the Red Sea on Monday. During this period, Iran-backed Houthi rebels carried out several missile and drone attacks on warships. The US Defense Ministry confirmed this on Wednesday.
Defense Ministry Press Secretary Pete Ryder said the attack on the warships took place while passing through the Bab el-Mandeb Gulf in the Red Sea. The ministry said that this attack on USS Stockdale and USS Spruance was foiled.
Pete Ryder said that at least 8 drones, 5 anti-ship ballistic missiles and 3 anti-ship cruise missiles were used for the attack.
Last month America attacked Houthis
On October 17, the US Air Force bombed the positions of Houthi rebels in Yemen. US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin had said that the Air Force targeted 5 targets near Yemen's capital Sanaa with B-2 stealth bombers.
According to Austin, President Biden had given instructions for this attack. These attacks were aimed at destroying the weapons of Houthi rebels. Houthi rebels also confirmed the attack. However, he did not give any information about the amount of loss incurred. Houthi's deputy head Nasruddin Amer had said that America will have to pay the price.
Just a month before the attack, the US had deployed B-2 stealth bombers at the secret military base Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.
Houthis have been targeting ships since the war in Gaza
