No veil on the head! Bangladesh women are being harassed on road of Dhaka if they do not have scarves on head allegation

Women are subjected to harassment in public streets if they do not wear veil or head cloth. It is alleged that this incident is happening in Dhaka city itself. Although such incidents have happened before, it is also alleged that it is happening more and more recently in 'changed and free' Bangladesh. No one in 'independent' Bangladesh dares to protest this. It is alleged that more and more bad comments are being made when someone protests the harassment. However, Sharmin Murshid, advisor to the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs of the interim government, refuses to accept that such incidents have increased in various areas including Dhaka. He claimed that a group is trying to prove that extremism has increased in Bangladesh due to political reasons. He also claimed that this kind of torture on women is being done with that thought in mind.

Residents of Bangladesh complain that women were taunted earlier if they did not wear hijab or headscarf. But they also claim that after the interim government came to power, such incidents are becoming more visible. On social media, women are also highlighting incidents of being harassed for not wearing a veil or head cloth. Writer Taslima Nasreen also criticized this.

Women advisers to the government of Bangladesh do not wear hijab. He has highlighted this on social media. Taslima wrote, 'There is one thing I like about this government. That is, women-counselors do not wear veils on their heads, or hijab.' So many people have raised the question why ordinary women will be harassed for this.

Those who had to be harassed because of this said, 'Such incidents have happened before. But earlier I protested it. I am afraid to protest now.' They also claimed that the issue of insulting women has now increased to a circle. A few days ago, Maisha Mahzabeen wanted to know on Facebook whether 'catcalling' has increased on the streets. There, women wrote about their experiences of being harassed recently because of their clothes.

ABM Nazmus Shakib, assistant professor of criminology department of Dhaka University, thinks that concerted steps should be taken to reduce such incidents. Adviser to the Interim Government's Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has acknowledged that women are being harassed on the streets. He assured that initiatives will be taken to prevent such incidents.
