A Bangladeshi man has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on charges of migrant quota fraud. The country's media Free Malaysia Times reported this information.
The report identified the arrested man, aged around 40, as 'Director' and 'VIP'. However, no further information has been given about him. Selangor MACC director Alias Salim confirmed his arrest.
According to the Free Malaysia Times, this Bangladeshi VIP applied for tax exemption against the quota of 600 expatriate workers for two non-existent projects. The tax amount for the waiver application is about 6.5 million ringgit.
MACC's local authorities investigated and found out that the project mentioned by the person was fake. Due to this, he was arrested. Later, the court remanded the court till November 17 for further questioning. He is now in prison.
According to the Free Malaysia Times report, the man applied for a waiver of the migrant quota tax in 2023.
