In 1950, Kaka Kalelkar Commission was formed, whose report was canceled by the Congress governments. Mandal Commission was formed to provide reservation to backward classes. Indira and Rajiv Gandhi opposed the Mandal Commission and Congress spent years in giving reservation to backward classes in central institutions. When Narendra Modi government was formed in 2014, 27 percent reservation was given to backward classes in all central jobs and examinations. Worked to give constitutional status to the Backward Classes Commission.

Assembly elections will be held in two phases in Jharkhand
