Kerala Court Sentences To Life Term Three In 2016 Kollam Collectorate Blast – Amar Ujala Hindi News Live

A Kerala court on Thursday sentenced three convicts in the 2016 IED blast case to life imprisonment. All three accused are residents of Madurai and were accused of terrorism related crimes. The blast took place in the Collectorate complex in Kollam.

Life imprisonment and fine of Rs 30 thousand to all three culprits

Prosecutor Sachin G. Mundakkal told that Kollam District Principal Sessions Judge G. Gopakumar sentenced Abbas Ali, Shamsun Karib Raja and Dawood Suleman to life imprisonment under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Apart from this, all three were also sentenced to 10 years imprisonment under the charge of Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He said that the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on each convict. All three convicts were also associated with a group promoting the ideas of terrorist Osama bin Laden of the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda.

There was a massive explosion in a vehicle in the Collectorate premises.

This explosion occurred on 15 June 2016. The IED (Improvised Explosive Device) was hidden in a tiffin box, which exploded in a vehicle parked in the Collectorate premises. There was a massive explosion near Mansif Court at around 10.45 am. The accused were charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), criminal conspiracy, attempt to murder and the Explosive Substances Act.

A plan was made to carry out blasts in court premises across the country.

The police and National Investigation Agency (NIA) had investigated the case. Investigation revealed that the accused had planned bomb blasts in court complexes across the country. They had earlier also carried out blasts in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, Mysore in Karnataka and Malappuram in Kerala. The first accused Abbas Ali had prepared the bomb at his house. While the second accused Shamsun Karim Raja had placed him in the Collectorate and the third accused Dawood Suleman had taken responsibility for the blast on social media. The case was registered at Kollam West police station and the investigation was conducted by the Kollam Assistant Commissioner of Police. Later, NIA thoroughly investigated the case and arrested the accused.
