Jammu Kashmir News: Due to the noise, the proceedings of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly were adjourned for the day on Wednesday. BJP MLAs opposed the resolution passed on restoration of special status of the state. There was a heated debate in the House between National Conference and BJP MLAs. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Singh Chaudhary presented a proposal in the House for restoration of special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The proposal was passed by the Speaker of the Assembly.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that the Assembly has done its work. In the proposal, the Government of India has been requested to start talks with the elected representatives of Jammu and Kashmir. Surinder Chaudhary said that the purpose of the proposal is to restore the constitutional guarantee that protects the region's unique identity, culture and rights. BJP MLA Sunil Sharma said that the proposal is not part of the scheduled work of the Assembly.
Deputy Chief Minister presented proposal for restoration of special status
He once again urged the government to consider. The BJP MLA's protest received support from other parties. Opposition MLAs came to the well of the assembly and started raising slogans. The Speaker passed the resolution by voice vote amid protests. BJP MLA Sham Lal Sharma stood at the table and said that the National Conference has been playing with the sentiments of the people since 1947. The House echoed with slogans like Jai Shri Ram, anti-national agenda will not work, 5th August Zindabad, Bharat Mata Ki Jai.
Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra said that the proposal talks about restoration of the federal structure. Statehood and special constitutional guarantees are also included. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary, who presented the proposal for restoration of Article 370, said that we have not done anything new.
The promise was included in the manifesto of the National Conference. The party has represented the mandate and aspirations of the people. On the sloganeering by BJP MLAs, Chaudhary said that Lord Ram does not belong to any one party or community.
PDP MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para said the proposal represents the aspirations of the people. Independent MLA from Shopian Shabit Kulle said that he will put pressure on the government for amendments. Ladakh of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir has been left out in the proposal for withdrawal of Article 370. People's Congress President and Handwara MLA Sajjad Lone said that the status of the state was reduced on August 5, 2019.
House proceedings adjourned for the day due to uproar
The aggressive attitude of the opposition MLAs continued in the House. Seeing the uproar, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House for 15 minutes. BJP MLAs remained in front in opposition to the proposal. As the protests continued, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
