Nvidia and MediaTek are jointly developing the latest ARM-based CPUs. These CPUs are intended to enhance the Windows–ARM ecosystem. It could hit the market in the second half of 2025. The new artificial intelligence or AI processor will compete with Microsoft, Qualcomm, AMD and Intel companies.
Tech website DigiTimes says AI plans to enter the PC processor sector by using the large ecosystem of Nvidia and its partners to regularly design and deliver applications and games for ARM-based processors.
Not only that, Nvidia is also making their new GeForce RTX 50 series 'Blackwell' desktop graphics cards and new GeForce RTX 50 laptop series 'Blackwell' mobile GPUs. These will be included in the new AI PCs. These PCs will have CPUs from Nvidia and MediaTek based on ARM architecture.
ARM-based AI PC processors have so far been limited to Qualcomm and its new Snapdragon platform. Most of them do not perform very well. But the situation is slowly improving and more hardware companies like Nvidia and MediaTek are expected to join the competition. So better results will be seen in future.
Earlier Nvidia said RTX is the 'premium' AI PC platform and will unveil new NPUs (neural processing units) CPUs and chips for 'basic' AI PCs.
A good GeForce RTX GPU can still far outpace the NPU inside any CPU, and the performance difference will continue to be there for years to come.
The new chip will support advanced technologies, and will be mass produced on TSMC's new 3nm process node. It will compete with Apple's new M4 chip and Qualcomm's Snapdragon X processor.
