The United Nations will strengthen cooperation to prevent genetic diseases


Bangladesh has a wide border with Myanmar on one side and India on the other.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, Gwen Lewis, said this during a courtesy call on the adviser at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in her office on Wednesday (November 6).

In the interview, the Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Syed Mahmud Belal Haider, Additional Secretary A.T.M. Mustafa Kamal, Huma Khan, UN Senior Human Rights Adviser stationed in Bangladesh were present.

He said that Bangladesh has become a model state in the field of One Health by taking various activities among the countries of the region. Areas of UN cooperation in the Blue Economy and One Health initiatives also need to be identified.

In the meeting, Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar said that there is an opportunity for the related organizations of the United Nations to further support the Bangladesh government in financial and sustainable development by taking coordinated activities of various stakeholders including fisheries and livestock, environment, agriculture to ensure the well-being of the people of the country.

When the Fisheries and Livestock Advisor called for the cooperation of the United Nations to protect Bangladesh from genetic diseases, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations said that the United Nations will strengthen the activities undertaken to solve this problem by increasing international cooperation.
