The party has proposed the names of five people from BNP in the search committee to form the new election commission.
On Wednesday (November 6), Cabinet Secretary Dr. BNP Standing Committee Member Salauddin Ahmed and Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie handed over the list of names to Sheikh Abdur Rashid.
Shayrul Kabir Khan, a member of the party's media cell, confirmed the matter around 11 pm today. However, it is not known which five people have been named in the search committee.
Earlier on Sunday, it was asked to send names to the cabinet department by November 7 with four days time. It has also been informed that any individual can propose names besides political parties, professional organizations.
A maximum of five names have been proposed for the post of Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners.
The government formed a search committee on October 31 to make recommendations to the president for the formation of a new election commission by appointing CEC and other commissioners. The convener of this six-member committee is the senior judge of the Appellate Division, Zubair Rahman Chowdhury.
The members of the search committee led by Justice Zubair are Senior Justice AKM Asaduzzaman of the High Court, former Chairman of Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) Prof. Jinnatun Nesa Tahmida Begum and former Professor of International Relations Department of Dhaka University Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Auditor General and Controller Md. Nurul Islam and PSC Chairman Mobaswer Monem.
