The International Internet Gateway Association of Bangladesh (IIGAB) has proposed to the telecommunication regulatory body BTRC to reduce the cost of internet. In the letter sent by the organization to BTRC on October 29, proposals have been sent to reduce the price of internet in different slabs than the existing market price.
Stakeholders say that if the bandwidth price is reduced, the ISPs will be able to reduce Rs 50-75 per mega bandwidth (in different slabs) or keep less from the customer. This will reduce the internet cost of the customer.
In a round table meeting organized by the Telecom and Technology Reporters Network of Bangladesh on November 4 at a hotel in Tejgaon of the capital, BTRC Chairman Emdad-ul Bari said that to expand digital services, the price of internet must be reduced, which BTRC is working on. If government as well as private institutions take initiative, reducing the cost of bandwidth can be easier.
When asked about this, IIGAB President Aminul Hakim said, “This is our initiative to increase the rate of internet usage, reach the internet at the marginal level and increase users.” If this is implemented, the cost of internet will come down. Users will be able to use the internet at affordable rates.
Industry insiders say that the price at which bandwidth (in different slabs) is being sold in the IIG sector has been fixed in 2021. More than 3 years have passed. Bandwidth is still being sold at that price. This price is under review. Price review will reduce internet prices.
