He also expressed concern over unethical practices in the healthcare sector to fleece patients. Paul said at an event here that there is a need to build trust between insurance companies and hospitals, and between insurance companies and insured patients. He said, “We are deeply troubled to learn that some hospitals are doing things that break trust and increase the cost of treatment. When demand is high, some hospitals raise their prices.”
Paul also noted that some hospitals are adopting variable charging, in which prices change according to demand. Additionally, surcharge is also imposed for some facilities. “Some hospitals are charging extra for operation theater at certain times,” he said. Even though this happens very rarely, it is really troubling us.'' He stressed that India's healthcare sector should work as per the rules.
