Awami League has claimed that 'with the direct support of the government, the festival of indiscriminate killing of people is going on, which amounts to genocide'. The group says, 'Looting, arson, dacoity, theft, robbing people's houses are going on without interruption. The values of freedom and the spirit of the great liberation war are being undermined and the entire nation is being pushed into an extreme crisis.'
These things were said in a statement posted on the verified Facebook page of Awami League on Saturday. The statement was posted on November 3 Jail Killing Day.
The statement said, 'Bangladesh is going through a very difficult time today. Dr. An unconstitutional government led by Muhammad Yunus has seized power illegally and is spreading politically motivated violence and hatred. With the direct support of the government, the indiscriminate killing of people is going on, which amounts to genocide. Awami League leaders and workers, progressive people who believe in the spirit of liberation war and Hindu-Buddhist-Christians have become miserable.
It also said, 'Extreme anarchy and disorder is going on all over the country. On the one hand, criminals and identified terrorists are being released, on the other hand, Awami League leaders and workers are being arrested day after day indiscriminately.
The statement highlighted the attacks on Awami League leaders and workers after August 15, 1975. It is said, 'The people who are uncompromising towards the spirit of liberation war and ideals of non-communal Bangladesh have still not bowed their heads. Our national 4 leaders are the exponents of this path. They were as stubborn as the Himalayas towards the spirit of the great liberation war and the ideals of Bangabandhu. Even the fear of death could not shake them. So they did not hesitate to sacrifice their lives.'
The statement from Awami League said, 'At the time of crisis of the country and the nation, the 4 national leaders have identified us as a source of endless motivation. Their attitude towards the spirit of liberation war and the ideals of Bangabandhu is forever memorable and exemplary for us. Their sacrifice will provide the fuel to keep the flame of our consciousness burning in the fight against any evil forces.'
Regarding the program on November 3, the Awami League said, 'In commemoration of Jail Killing Day, tributes will be paid to the graves of Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmad and M Mansoor Ali at Banani Cemetery. Besides, tributes will be paid at the tomb of AHM Kamruzzaman in Rajshahi. Prayers will be held in memory of all the martyrs of the liberation war including the national 4 leaders and those who died in the struggle for democratic rights of the country. Apart from this, Awami League requested the leaders of various political, social and cultural organizations and the people of the country to organize various programs as well as discussion meetings in commemoration of the 4 national leaders.
