Engineer Sheikh Riaz Ahmed, commissioner of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) said that customers should not panic about unregistered mobile phones used in the country. He said this in response to a question from someone who attended BTRC's public hearing on the functioning of the country's telecommunication services and regulatory body on Wednesday (May 8).
Sheikh Riaz said, 'At present, both registered and unregistered mobile phones are active in the country's network. However, the customers will be given sufficient time if it is necessary to stop the illegal phones that are in use. So there is no reason to worry that unregistered mobile phones will be stopped.'
When asked why the phone should be verified, he said, 'On behalf of the government and BTRC, I will request the customers, that everyone should buy a registered mobile phone. We discourage you from using unregistered mobile phones.'
Riyaz Ahmed said that if anyone has unregistered mobile phones, they will be registered at BTRC, “All mobile sets will work on the network. None will be stopped.'
