Tom Hanks is grateful that a sequel to his iconic film 'Forrest Gump' was never made. In a recent interview with the New York Times, he said that the original 1994 film was completely different. No need to repeat it.
'It's an unusual combination that stands entirely on its own. It should never be remade. Thankfully, we never tried to remake it. Why put one hat on top of another?'- he added.
Hanks played the title role in 'Forrest Gump'. It is based on the 1986 novel by Winston Garum. The movie follows the life of Forrest, an Alabama native with an IQ of 75. He is eager to reunite with his childhood sweetheart. It draws on his experiences from the 1950s to the 1970s.
Hanks mentioned on the 2022 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast, there was a brief discussion about a 'Forrest Gump' sequel. But it lasted only 40 minutes and later they decided to drop it.
Hanks also said, the film still holds a place in the mind of the audience. Older people get nostalgic when they hear about this film. Newbies are happy to see. It is a timeless creation. “When someone can say they've seen 'Forrest Gump,' they consider themselves a tasteful viewer, and that recognition gives them comfort and familiarity,” he said.
