4 Thai citizens were killed in a rocket attack in the town of Metula near the Israel-Lebanon border. Another person was injured. The casualties occurred when Hezbollah fired rockets into northern Israel in response to Israeli airstrikes in Beirut. On Friday (November 1), Thailand's Foreign Minister Maris Sangyampongsa said on social media that they are deeply concerned about the death of a Thai citizen. British news agency Reuters reported this news.
Thai Foreign Minister Maris also said that Thailand has been strongly urging all parties to return to the path of peace. Such action is called for out of concern for the innocent civilians affected by the prolonged and deepening conflict.
According to the Thai Foreign Ministry, 46 Thai nationals were among the 1,200 people killed in attacks by the Palestinian independence armed group Hamas on the border with Israel last year. In addition, 30 of the citizens held hostage by Hamas at that time were Thai citizens. However, 23 of them were released during a brief ceasefire in November 2023. The rest are still imprisoned.
In response to the attacks of Hamas, the Israeli forces have been indiscriminately attacking Gaza since that day. More than 43,000 Palestinian civilians have been killed in the attacks so far. In addition, many civilians have lost their lives in the hands of the Israeli army while carrying out attacks against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
About 30,000 Thai nationals worked in Israel before the start of the conflict. Most of them work in agriculture sector. A large proportion of Israel's migrant workers were Thai nationals, as wages were much higher than in Southeast Asian countries.
